Ann Arbor

After driving through Farmington Hills, Farmington, Livonia and Detroit, I settled in Ann Arbor today. Ann Arbor is a city in South East Michigan. I think about 300,000 people live there.

First settled in the mid 1820s, Ann Arbor leaglly became a village about ten years later. Then in 1841 the University of Michigan began. About 1850 Ann Arbor received a city charter.

About 40 miles west of Detroit, A.A. was once a friut growing and agricultural community.

Now it is known for light and high tech industry, as well as for its many great restaurants.

Today I had a wonderful meal at Zanzibar on State Street.

The Washtenaw County government is in A.A.

The county is about 1/2 hour drive west of Detroit, next to the Huron River.

Ann Arbor is electric at night with jazz and cafes. In the summer, everyone is out of doors.

The summer Arts fair is famous-I was told about 100,000 tourists come in for it.
