I travelled west to Grand Rapids today.
Known first for making furniture and later for Amway, Grand Rapids has a robust and diversified economy. It is also the epicenter of the Lake Michigan tourist industry in Western Michigan.
Almost 700,000 people live in or near G.R. The city is culturally dominated by the Dutch Reform Church. Points of interest include Meijer Garden-with a 24 foot statue of a horse (inspired by one Leonardo failed to cast), a fine zoo, the public museum, and the Gerald Ford Museum.
The Grand River bifurcates the city, and is traversed by several bridges. The is a lovely river walk along the Grand River.Â
