I will be in Chicago this August. Chicago is home to 250,000 Jews which makes up not quite one tenth of the total population. It is the third largest US city after New York and Los Angeles-actually the third largest in North America. Chicago is an emensely appealing city for tourists, sporting two excellent zoos, a great aquarium, a wonderful planetarium, and top notch natural history, science and art museums. Good restaurants are almost endless. many universities, including the world renown University of Chicago, are there.
For the traveller interested in Jewish sites, the Spertus Institute is down town. The institute is both a school and a museum. Many Reform, Conservative, traditional and Orthodox synagogues are within the city limits. Many more are in the metro area. The rabbinic community is particularly well respected.
More soon ta ta.
