Rabbi Richard Baroff

Prague is a city of well over one million two hundred thousand souls. Since the second world war its population has been quite stable. This is because Prague has suffered from a rather chronic housing shortage, and cannot really accomodate an influx of people.

Prague is an old city, probably founded in the 9th century. It is also unsurpassingly beautiful- known as the City of a Hundred Spires. Fortunately the city was not badly damaged by World War II.

Prague is split by the Vlatava River. Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral stand on the left side of the river on Castle Hill. The Old Town Hall and the Tyn Church are in Old Town Square on the right bank. Old Town Square has been the historical epicenter of the city. New Town has been constructed over the past 200 years. New Town is also on the right bank of the river. This is where the business of the city takes place for the most part.

I will have much more to say later.
